This piece is called “The Clash“ for a couple of reasons. For one, the clash of colors, red, white, and blue which are the colors of the American flag and the British flag. “The Clash” was a British punk band in the 1970’s and 80’s. I was listening to them while I was painting today. This piece is the first of two in the series. “The Clash” and “London Calling” (which was shortened to just “The Calling”) fit together to tell an abstract story. No characters or plots, but you put these two paintings down side by side and they tell the story of the journey the colors took to create this piece. It is also three-dimensional. One can see the flow of the paint, rather than brush strokes.
