8x10 Black/White/Sepia-Tone photograph. This piece has been one of my favorites for about 20 years, since I took it in college. It has been on my wall for a good part of that. For my exit show, my final portfolio of the class, I spent one week in New York where 3 feet of snow fell, and I spent the next week in South Beach Miami, where it’s 80 degrees in December. So this is what December in Miami looks like.
This photo was taken 24 years ago in 1998 before digital photography was the norm. So I shot this with a Cannon AE-1, developed the negatives and photographs manually in the darkroom, and printed the images on photo paper. This process may now be antiquated but I think all photographers should be able to develop their images manually. It gives you more control over your clarity, and your lights and darks. Plus, any attention you get from manually produced photographs would be much more deserved and appreciated!
